Real fans stay for full game

On the most beautiful February afternoon I can recall, the fair-weather fans showed up.
Folks walked into The Hump in the white T-shirts, confident that their Dawgs would deliver another victory.
With more and more peolpe participating in the “White-Outs,” I had thought that the days of alumni being bad fans at basketball games were over.
Forgive my naivity. Now, I must lay my second mushroom cloud as ‘Jules.’
Long story short: Alabama played so uncharacteristically well they should have been dressed in Maroon.
Meanwhile, State played so uncharacteristically bad that they should have been crimson-clad.
While Alabama held a 65-60 lead the Rowdies chanted “Maroon” during the media time-out with 1:35 to go. The echo of the cheer filled the vocal vacancy left by early departures in the alumni section.
I will never understand people that leave before the buzzer.
Some use the excuse of wanting to beat the rush.
If you go to the trouble of driving to the game, what’s another 10 minutes after the game?
A five-point deficit with 1:35 left in a hoops game is an anthill.
The Dawgs had already recorded come-from-behind wins against Alabama-Birmingham, Santa Clara, Mississippi and South Carolina, to name a few.
But Saturday, the fans did not believe.
Self-proclaimed fans who can’t support the team for the entire game belong in a doghouse, not The Dawg House.
If you can’t support the Dawgs, stay on your porch.
