Track claims three wins, sets records

The Mississippi State University women’s indoor track and field claimed first place in three events last weekend at the Rod McCravy Memorial Meet at the University of Kentucky.
The Lady Dawgs set two UK records and an MSU record at the two-day event.
Zita Magloire won the 800-meter dash with a personal-best 2:12.82. She also ran in the 4×400-meter relay with Kia James, Nicole Dunn and Jennifer McPherson. The foursome claimed first place for the Lady Dawgs with a 3:53.97.
“Zita competed exceptionally well for us,” head coach Al Schmidt said. “She was never challenged in her 800m run.”
“I tried to carry out the strategy coach gave me and that is what helped me get the win,” said Magloire.
Coming back from illness, Tiffany McWilliams took first place in the mile run with a 4:43.01 time. This time set a record for the McCravy Memorial Meet and UK’s Nutter Fieldhouse.
“I am not back where I want to be,” McWilliams said. “I am just trying to stay positive.”
Schmidt said, “Tiffany had a rough past two months, but she still competed well.”
Crystal Averitt turned in a fourth place finish in the weight throw. She threw for a career record of 54-9 1U4.
“Crystal also did extremely well for our team. She had all good throws,” Schmidt said.
“You get six and she had six good ones.”
