Tiffany McWilliams raced for another win this weekend at the Penn Relays claiming first in the Olympic Development Mile finishing in 4:31.31. While running the second fastest time ever at the meet, McWilliams set another regional qualifying mark.
Also making a huge statement for MSU was Trey Hardee, Jamel Ashley, Arthur Davis and LaChristopher Lewis. The foursome won the 4x200m Championship of America relay finishing in 1:22.53.
The 4x400m relay of Ashley, Lewis, Davis and Keston Nelson finished fifth with a 3:05.36 performance.
“I felt really good about our win in the 4x200m relay,” said Davis. “Not a lot of schools know about us, but we have won some pretty prestigious meets that have made us the team to beat.”
“It is unbelievable for your university when you win a Championship of America race,” said head coach Al Schmidt. “We were looking for a lot more in the 4x400m relay, but one championship is a lot more than some schools win.”
The Bulldog field team finished with two athletes in the Top 10; Matt Holcomb had a seventh-place showing in the hammer throw.
Holcomb concluded his competition with a regional qualifying mark of 186-6.
Also in the hammer throw, Matt Whalen had a 10th-place finish and a personal best mark of 181-8.
The Bulldogs look forward to their final regular-season meet, which will be the Ole Miss Open Saturday.
