Mary J. Blige’s newest album, Love and Life is a powerful 18-track disc that definitely should not be overlooked. Her lyrics display exactly what Mary J. fans love about her-powerful voice and relentless attitude.
A gifted songwriter with a great producer, Mary J. makes magic on Love and Life. With the help of producer P. Diddy, this album is solid. Ironically P Diddy is the man credible for giving her the title, “Queen of Hip-Hop and Soul.” You find her album at the music stores under R&B, but the blues is what she’s screaming.
The majority of this album deals with the bliss and issues of love. Many of these inspirational tracks refer to her new fianc Kendu Isaacs.
Mary J. Blige teams up with Method Man on her track, “All I Need.” Together they create a soulful love ballad. But Method Man isn’t the only treat on the album.
50 Cent and Mary team up on “Let Me Be The 1″ to create a sexy duet only possible by this lethal combination. Don’t worry guys, her duets aren’t all men.
Eve and Mary J Blige creep up on you while combining their soul on ” Not Today.” The girls preach empowerment on this Dr. Dre produced track.
Seemingly in touch with all of the reality TV shows and drama series around today, she sings of the things important to her, love and life. There is a no-drama theme very present by lyrics such as “all I want is to be happy.” This is a big change from her previous albums, which often feature “my man done wrong” songs.
Although her voice is her strongest talent, her lyrics don’t need to be sung to be heard. “If I wasn’t doing this, what would I be doing?” she raps during her interlude, “Finally Made It.” Her monologe is real enough to give chills to any one trying to make it out in this big bad world. Yes you did make it Mary. Great album.
