With a weekend trip to No. 13 Florida looming, head coach Sylvester Croom announced Tuesday that starting strong safety DeMario Bobo and reserve linebacker Fred Akines have been suspended from the team indefinitely.
In an article in the Jackson Clarion-Ledger Wednesday, Croom said that Akines is no longer on the team, though he is still in school and on scholarship.
Croom also said the suspensions are two totally different matters.
Bobo, a sophomore from Clarksdale, missed his first start of the season versus LSU due to a minor knee injury.
Bobo was fifth on the team in tackles with 22 and had two pass deflections and a fumble recovery.
De’Mon Glanton, a 6-foot1, 185-pound redshirt freshman, will play instead of Bobo.
Akines, who has seen most of his work on special teams, has tallied one tackle this season.
