    Reflector nabs several SEJC awards

    Members of The Reflector staff took home several top awards at the 2004 Southeast Journalism Conference in Ruston, La.
    Thirty-one colleges from around the Southeast, including several SEC schools, competed in the competitions, which were held on the campus of Louisiana Tech Thursday through Saturday. The competitions were divided into “Best in the South” and “on-site.”
    The Reflector won the overall on-site competition, winning three first place awards. Editor in chief Josh Foreman placed first in the feature writing category, photo editor Alex Diaz placed first in the feature photography category and entertainment editor Dustin Barnes placed first in the First Amendment essay category.
    The Reflector also won several first place awards in the “Best of the South” competition. Foreman won first place in the College Journalist of the Year category and the best news reporter category for stories he wrote for The Madison County Journal. News editor Elizabeth Crisp won first place in the best newspaper page layout designer category for front pages she designed for The Reflector. Barnes and opinion editor Angela Adair won first place in the best public service journalism category for a series on STD testing they wrote for The Reflector. Gabe Smith won first place in the best arts and entertainment writer category for film reviews he wrote for The Reflector.
    In addition, The Reflector won seventh place overall in the best college newspaper category. In all, members of The Reflector staff took home 23 awards.
