Rap and R&B group B.O.M.B. Squad has made its mark on the Mississippi State University campus this year.
The group has performed at fraternity houses and other venues throughout the year, and its popularity is increasing throughout the Starkville-MSU community.
B.O.M.B. Squad is made up of two freshman students, Devin “Kryptonite” Lindsay and Devin “Deezy” Cornelius, and Vincent “Boohman” Bracey from the Mississippi University for Women. They are from Terry, Miss., and are produced by Lost Legend Entertainment.
Chris Cajoleas, freshman international business major, manager of B.O.M.B. Squad and CEO of Lost Legend Entertainment, said B.O.M.B. Squad brings pride to Mississippi State.
“I think that it is important for the MSU campus to hear B.O.M.B Squad because two of the members are freshmen here at Mississippi State. This gives the school something else to call its own, and it gives us a sense of pride,” he said. “It’s rare when a college town inherits a group of very driven and talented artists. Starkville, as well as the rest of Mississippi, is overflowing with underground musical talent.”
Cajoleas said B.O.M.B Squad is an original, talented group with depth to its songs.
“B.O.M.B. Squad does not play or record cover songs, and everything is original and written by them. They are not the typical Southern group that will make single after single, but never a complete album package,” he said. “Of course they have the typical ‘down South’ song or two, but they strive to go out of their comfort zone and showcase their talent and lyrical depth with other styles of rap, making a complete package of talent. You can put them on any type of beat and before you know it you’ll be dancing and singing along.”
Lindsay, freshman biological sciences major, said the band’s main musical influence is life.
“[Our influence] is human emotions, especially up at school,” he said. “Musically, we listen to all styles of rap and R&B in order to not get wrapped into wanting to be just another carbon copy of someone. Variety breeds creativity and new music offers no limitations.”
Gracy Hewes, freshman kinesiology major, said she thinks B.O.M.B. Squad is worth listening to.
“They are a great up-and-coming group. I love their music and I cannot wait to see what the future has for them,” she said.
“Check them out on MySpace; you will not regret it.”
B.O.M.B. Squad has mix tapes available at its shows, and its music will be streaming on the Internet as well as the radio in the near future.
