    Eight Bulldogs post career bests at Tyson Invitational

    The Lady Bulldog track team finished out the weekend at the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark., with a total of eight new personal best marks in competition. On day one, freshmen Marrissa Harris posted a new personal best time in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.67 seconds to place 18th.
    In the throws competition, sophomore Emily Sanders scored a throw of 52 feet in the 20-pound weight throw.
    In distance competitions, MSU had three personal-best marks.
    In the mile run, senior Mina Thorstenson turned in a time of 5 minutes, 4 seconds, while sophomore Brittany Detzel came in shortly after at 5:18.29.
    They finished 23rd and 36th respectively in the event. Junior Annie Falor also placed 33rd in the same event.
    Sophomore Nicole Rossetti posted a career-best time in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 18:21.65 to come home seventh.
    Freshman Wendy Copeland registered a jump of 39 feet in the triple-jump competition.
    This mark ranks third best of all time in MSU women’s indoor track in that event.
    Copeland finished sixth in the event.
    Sophomore Janelle Finley posted a jump of 39 feet, 2 inches in the same event to place 10th overall.
    Sophomore Abbey Graham bested her previous time in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:21.
    Mina Thorstenson turned in a time of 10:21.87, placing 25th in the 3,000-meter run to set a new career mark.
    Freshman Laquinta Aaron made her debut in the 400-meter dash, posting a time of 57.86 to come home 50th in the event.
    In the high jump, sophomore Dorothy Youmans turned in a jump of 5-3, placing sixth overall.
    Marrissa Harris also competed in the long jump competition, placing 16th with a jump of 18-2. Wendy Copeland also competed in the event, coming home 20th.
    Senior Nicola Wilson placed 15th in the shot put competition, recording a throw of 46-5.
    “We’ve got two weeks to prepare for the SEC championships,” head coach Al Schmidt said. “Competing for an SEC title has been our main focus.”
    The Bulldogs will return to action in two weeks for the Southeastern Conference Indoor Track Championships, held in Lexington, Ky., on the campus of the University of Kentucky.
