Mississippi University for Women’s acting president, and former Mississippi State Supreme Court Justice Lenore Prather was hospitalized last week after experiencing discomfort in her arms, according to Anika Perkins, director of public affairs for MUW.Perkins said Prather was admitted to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle as a precautionary measure.
Prather was experiencing the early symptoms of angina, Perkins said.
Angina pectoris is caused by a sudden drop in blood supply to the heart and is characterized by sharp pains in the chest and the left arm.
On Oct. 17, doctors at Baptist Memorial performed a heart catheterization on Prather. A partial blockage was detected in the heart, and a coronary stint was implanted to repair the damage.
“The procedure went very well, and (she) was only briefly hospitalized,” Perkins said.
Prather was released on Oct. 18 and is feeling fine, according to Perkins.
Prather, an MUW graduate, has been the MUW Interim President since President Clyda Rent resigned in June of 2001.
