    Pedestrian struck by vehicle

Starkville resident Edward Nash III, who was struck by a van while crossing Nash Street Thursday afternoon, is in stable condition after coming out of surgery at Oktibbeha County Hospital.
William Ashley, who said he is from Virginia but is in Starkville working, was turning onto Nash Street when he hit the man.
“I only have one eye,” Ashley said. “I guess he was just in my blind spot. I did not see him whatsoever.”
The man was lying on the ground, still pressed against the tire of the navy Dodge Ram van, when police and emergency officials arrived on the scene.
An SPD officer at the scene of the accident said the victim had a cut above his eye and was going to be OK.
Mississippi State University senior Amy Teague said she was the one who called 911 after seeing Ashley hit the victim.
“My friend saw him walking right before he got hit,” Teague said. “We were all standing outside talking, and I had my phone in my hand already.”
Teague said she and her friends went to check on the man and that he appeared to be fine.
“He was talking, but there was blood immediately,” Teague said.
