On Wednesday, May 9, 2012, soon after midnight, Mississippi State University student Treasure K. Huffman died in a car accident.
She was pronounced dead at the scene by Oktibbeha County Coroner Michael Hunt.
Huffman was a sophomore from Starkville whose major was undeclared.
According to a press release, the Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Office responded to an accident at the intersection of Oktoc and Skinner Road.
Responding deputies found a black 1999 Ford Explorer overturned near the intersection in the woods.
Six passengers of the vehicle were transported via ambulance to OCH-Regional medical center.
Three of the passengers are in critical condition and were transferred to Critical Care Units in Jackson and Tupelo.
Three passengers were treated at OCH-Regional medical center and then released.
Michael Hunt, Oktibbeha County Coroner, said he pronounced Huffman dead at the scene of the accident.
Hunt said Huffman’s cause of death was multi-system trauma.
He also said it appears alcohol was involved in the accident.
Hunt said Huffman was not under the influence.
He confirmed seven people were in the car at the time of the accident and they were not wearing seatbelts.
The accident is currently under investigation by the Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Department.
