Fountain Bar hosted their first “Study Hall” event Oct. 3 to replace the popular 3-4-1 drink special that was canceled due to a public brawl in September.
Study Hall is a drink special offering three drinks for the price of one to MSU students on Tuesday nights from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. The Fountain Bar offers free entry to students with a valid MSU ID.
If customers cannot provide a valid MSU ID, the cover charge is $15 which includes a free drink voucher. A second form of ID is also required for entry.
Study Hall was first announced on the Fountain Bar and Mojo Maroon’s Instagram page Sept. 28.
“With the safety of our wonderful patrons and staff being our NUMBER ONE concern, we took a moment to weigh our options and consider many excellent suggestions from management, staff, and y’all,” the caption read. “After putting our brains together, we think we’ve come up with a solution that suits everyone.”
The new special is one of the only drink deals in the Cotton District specifically catered to university students. Anna Cole Ware, the general manager at Fountain Bar and Mojo Maroons, hopes for the growth of Study Hall.
“Last week we saw a decent crowd with lots of new student faces, which was nice to see because there aren’t too many deals in the cotton district targeting students,” Ware said. “It was a good crowd to build on, there is so much potential for Tuesday nights and we hope to see an even bigger crowd as the weeks go by.”
The fight responsible for the cancellation of 3-4-1 involved multiple people and a crowbar used as a weapon. This postponed the iconic drink deal for only one week before it was replaced by Study Hall.
“We are still looking for ways to make this night better for everyone,” Ware said. “We feel as if Study Hall was a safe and fun way to bring back a deal that everyone loves that’s now oriented toward students.”
The crowd at the first Study Hall was comprised mostly of students taking advantage of the new special. Abigail Brazzeal, a senior fashion design and merchandising major, said the new student-oriented event has an enjoyable atmosphere.
“3-4-1 has been a vital part of MSU culture my entire college career, so it was very upsetting to hear that it might be gone forever,” Brazzeal said. “Study Hall feels like a school club where I get to do what I love best and have fun.”
Brazzeal expressed her hopes for a long, fun-filled future for Study Hall.
“Long live Study Hall and live, laugh, chug,” Brazzeal said.
