Bulldogs eager to reverse curse

Desperation puts it lightly for the Bulldogs this week. Mississippi State University needs a win, and the Dogs need it now.
With two weeks remaining in the season, the pressure is on to win. MSU is now 4-6 after losing three straight games to ranked opponents.
The Bulldogs get a limping Arkansas team this week in a match that will kickoff at 11:21 a.m. in Little Rock, Ark.
The Razorbacks have now lost seven straight games after they started the season off with three straight wins.
The Arkansas offense has not been able to get on track this season as the Hogs are ranked No. 110 in the nation in points scored.
On paper, the Bulldogs look to have the advantage in almost every single category. However, there is one stat that has haunted the MSU football program.
That stat is the fact that the Bulldogs have never beaten Arkansas in the state of Arkansas. The curse of the Natural State has had a chokehold on the Bulldogs ever since Arkansas joined the conference in 1992.
After the Bulldogs claimed the first two meetings in the series played in Memphis, Tenn., the Razorbacks own a 9-0-1 record in games played in Arkansas (3-0 in Fayetteville, Ark., and 6-0-1 in Little Rock, Ark.).
In the last five trips to Arkansas, the average score has been: Arkansas 45, MSU 17.
Still, this season is the year to break the curse due to the fact that Arkansas has not been the same team as it has been in the past. Both of these teams are young and full of athletes.
This will be the first time MSU has faced Arkansas’ new head coach, Bret Bielema, who came from Wisconsin.
It will be interesting to see how MSU Head Coach Dan Mullen will fair against Bielema.
The Bulldogs have a little bit more firepower under them, and with two games remaining, MSU must win out to go to its fourth-straight bowl game under Mullen.
A big win on Saturday would boost the morale on campus, and all the energy and focus would be on the Egg Bowl. A loss would just put a damper on the lives of Bulldog nation and the curse would continue yet again.
Nevertheless, the stats speak for themselves. This season, the Bulldogs average 27.5 points per game, while Arkansas only averages 20.4 a game.
Both teams are clawing for a win late in the season. Can MSU reverse the curse and finally win in Arkansas? We will just have to find out Saturday.
