Lynn Spruill has won the run-off election for Starkville Mayor over Johnny Moore by only seven votes after all the affidavits were processed this morning.
The run-off was necessary after Spruill failed to secure the majority percentage of the primary vote earlier. While the results of the run-off could mean victory for Spruill, the narrow margin means Moore could still contest the results.
Moore has not yet stated if he would contest or not, and told reporters he would have a decision by the end of today.
While the official call for the position of mayor is still yet to be final, the run-off did break another close race for the GOP bit for Ward 1 Aldermen. During the primary, Jason Camp ran against incumbent Ben Carver for the chair, and the results of that election came down to single affidavits.
During the run-off yesterday, Carver won over Camp with 23 votes and will now move on to run against Christine Williams (D) during Starkville’s general election on June 6.
