Robert Earl Keen returns to Starkville for an encore performance this Friday at Remington’s Hunt Club. The Texas native will wrap up Remington’s semester concert schedule.
“We had such a huge turn out two years ago with REK’s first performance that we’ve been trying to get him back ever since. People came all the way from Texas, Nashville and the Coast to see him,” Norris said.
Norris said the concert will be a year-end celebration. He added that it’s Remington’s way of saying thanks to the students for such a great year.
With such positive feedback from REK’s performance two years ago, a large crowd will be likely.
“Two years ago 2,000 students showed up. It outsold every other performance we had. And students kept coming back asking for another concert from REK,” general manager Cory Pool said.
With such a great demand for Keen from the student’s, Norris said he immediately began to book another concert.
Senior Zach Goodyear says he’s a huge fan of REK. He describes Keen’s music as a country-rock mix that has its own distinct sound.
“He’s a good time, a great performer. I like his voice, his band. My favorite song is Copenhagen, it’s really funny,” Goodyear said.
Keen will take the stage shortly after 9:30. John Eddie will open the concert. However, everyone is encouraged to get there early. Norris also encourages everyone to purchase tickets in advance.
“We’re really excited and expect a great crowd. REK appeals to a good mix of people and he’ll play according to the crowd’s response. So, really the length of the show depends on the crowd. The more crazy and involved they get, the more he’ll play,” says Norris.
Tickets can be purchased in advance by calling 662-323-2892 and will also be sold at the door.
