Bulldog Bash is back for 2003, and this time it’s featuring nine musical acts-including a national headliner-that will play anything from bluegrass to hip-hop.
Edwin McCain, the national act, will headline the festival that will feature some acts from around the country and some from right here in Starkville.
With three different stages and styles of music ranging from rock ‘n’ roll and bluegrass to hip-hop, the Bulldog Bash should have no problem pleasing the musical tastes of Mississippi State University students, Starkville residents, tailgaters and even LSU fans.
“If hearing original music isn’t your thing, there are also great cover bands,” said Student Association external events co-director Travis Wolfe.
McCain will be playing on the Main Stage located at the MSU amphitheatre from 11:30 p.m. to 12:50 p.m.
Wolfe said hard work and sponsors helped the Student Association book McCain.
Other bands scheduled to play the main stage include Mile 8 and Will Hoge. Both Mile 8 and Will Hoge hail from Nashville, Tenn.
Will Hoge is touring with McCain. The union came about after McCain got their new record “Blackbird on a Lonely Wire” and called the guys up to see if they wanted to open for him on tour.
“It’s amazing. He is a phenomenal songwriter and singer. He has such a great band and we are winning over a lot of new fans,” Hoge said.
His music has been influenced by everything from the Beatles to Bob Dylan, just to name a few.
“It’s always good to be back in the South-that’s our home turf,” Hoge said.
Mile 8’s music can be described as a cross between the rock of Steely Dan and the Latin rhythm of Santana.
“This is one of the bigger shows we have played, which is great because we enjoy getting into the music and letting the energy from the crowd to lead the way,” Mile 8 member Neil Vance said. “We are a really open band. We love to have other musicians sit in with us-it brings the music to another place,” Vance said.
Bulldog Bash is also featuring two of Starkville’s very own local bands, Audio Drive and Falter. Mile 8, Will Hoge and Edwin McCain will be playing the Main Stage, with music beginning at 8:15 p.m. The music on the Deli Stage will begin at 5:30 with the bluegrass of the Cedar Creek Ramblers. But the music doesn’t stop there. The Grill Stage will get started at 8:30 with the music of Falter.
