Last fall, the Jackson Free Clinic in Jackson, Miss., acquired a new site for the clinic. However, the building needed major cleaning before we could start remodeling.
During the Christmas break, instead of “hell week” for new pledges, 20 members (both actives and pledges) of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity spent three days cleaning out the building.
They pulled up the old carpet, cleaned the gutters, moved heavy medical equipment and furniture, hauled away garbage, trimmed trees and did general yard work.
They did this with no complaints in cold weather and with little supervision on our part. Consequently, the renovation cost for the new facility was markedly reduced.
I would like to let the Mississippi State community know how appreciative we are of this remarkable contribution by SAE. On Aug. 27, the new facility was formally opened. Their labor of love went a long way to make this possible.
