West coast rapper hits Starkville bar

Many well-known musicians have played at the Hunt Club lately, With Sir Mix-A-Lot coming to perform on Thursday night, the trend will stay the same.
“We were really excited about bringing in Sir Mix-A-Lot,” Hunt Club Owner Bill Norris said. “It brings a lot of recognition to us when we can bring in an artist who has sold over 10 million records.”
Now on tour for his greatest hits album, Beepers, Benzos, and Booty: The Best Of…, Sir Mix-A-Lot will bring his rap to The Hunt Club.
Bill Norris has made bringing big acts to Starkville part of his life’s goal for the past couple of years. With Starkville’s relative obscurity to most musicians in the past, Norris knew he would fight an uphill battle. Despite the odds, Norris has managed to attract a few big names.
“We’ve worked really hard to get our name out there,” Norris said. “After a while, people started to recognize how unique of a setup we have at the Hunt Club. Now a lot of musicians want to come here.”
That formula for success has shown obvious fruit by attracting nationally known artists like Papa Roach, Guess Who, Three Doors Down, and this week Sir Mix-A-Lot.
Norris also recognizes that most of his crowd will consist of Mississippi State students. Instead of charging high prices for the concert, Norris wants to make it very easy for everyone to attend who wants to. The Hunt Club will host the first annual Remington’s Outdoor Crawfish Fest where all who attend will receive free Sir Mix-A-Lot tickets and other gifts after paying the $10 cover charge.
Parking Lot Games, sponsored by C Entertainment, will include gladiator jousting, sumo wrestling and bowling for trips. DJ Blaze will provide all of the musical entertainment inside. Everyone attending will also receive a free tanning session at Bella Nova Hair and Tanning Salon.
“We know that everyone is strapped for cash at the end of the semester,” Norris said. “We want to make it as affordable as possible for everyone to attend this awesome show. We’re going to have more sounds and lights for Sir Mix-A-Lot then we had for Papa Roach.”
Regular tickets for Sir Mix-A-Lot can be bought at Bulldog Lanes for $8 and tickets at the door will cost $10. The show will begin around 9:30 p.m. in the camphouse room.
