Michael Brakke will hold an open critique on Feb. 27 from 1-4 p.m. in Freeman Hall and will meet with animation students Feb. 28. The undergraduate students will meet from noon-1:30 p.m., and the graduate students will meet from 1:30-4 p.m. Brakke will also lecture Feb. 28 from 6-9 p.m. in the architecture auditorium. Brakke received an MFA from Yale University and is a professor of art at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. He has received numerous honors such as Visual Artists Fellowship, Who’s Who in American Art and Artists Fellowship.
He has been the recipient of the National Endowment of the Arts Grant, Project Completion Grant and the Joyce Foundation Grant.
He has shown at numerous galleries and museums and has permanent collections at The Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago; The Museum of Modern Art, New York, and the Guggenheim Museum, New York.
His work has been the subject of reviews and articles in publications including Art Forum, the New Art Examiner, Art magazine, Art News and Art in America.
Brakke is on sabbatical while participating in several group and individual exhibitions in New York City and Santa Fe, N.M. His current work uses materials ranging from cast polyester resin to computer modified or generated images, output as iris prints.
