Sanderson Center hosts Most of the Niter

If you are looking for a productive, fun, inexpensive Friday night, Recreational Sports is offering an event called “Most of the Niter” on Friday, Feb. 22 at the Sanderson Center. Feb. 22 is National Recreational Sports and Fitness Day, and the Sanderson Center will be offering a day full of fun and activities for everyone to enjoy.
“We’re offering a lot of different activities like sporting and fun activities for students, faculty, and staff,” said Kami White, assistant director of marketing and special events for recreational sports.
The program will start off with a pep rally at 6:30 p.m. at the Sanderson Center for the Ole Miss-Mississippi State basketball game.
“We’ll have the women’s basketball and soccer teams, and the cheerleaders will be there,” White said.
A new student organization called the Starlight Dancers will also perform at the pep rally.
The Starlight Dancers recently had tryouts, with ten females making the team.
“We are going to try to put something together for the upcoming pep rally,” said Starlight Dancers president and choreographer Ralph Brown.
“Our dance team wants to show everyone that we represent diversity,” Brown said.
“The Most of the Niter” will have events such as a three-on-three basketball tournament, flicker ball, table tennis, a badminton tournament, karaoke, massage therapy, speed rock climbing and a three-point competition.
“We are also having an event called hang time, which is where you can see how long you can hang from one of the rocks,” White said. “There’s also going to be a cartoonist to draw anyone’s portfolio.”
For every tournament and sports event participants must sign up.
“We will also have air brush tattoos from 7:30 till 10 p.m.,” White said.
Most of the Niter will have bingo, a half-court shot competition and free pizza for everyone.
“Our biggest event is a concert in the Sanderson gym at 10 p.m. with the band Field Day,” White said.
