The high school’s first try of a musical production has involved students and created an interest in performing.

There is a new shop in Starkville. A “Little Shop of Horrors,” that is. Howard Ashman’s “Little of Horrors” will open its doors Friday and Saturday 7:30 p.m. at the Greensboro Center Auditorium.

Starkville High School’s Fine Arts Department will be presenting the musical comedy involving over 60 students from all parts of the high school.

The somewhat gruesome musical is about a florist assistant named Seymore who, in a quest for fame and fortune, becomes involved with a man-eating plant.

“There is not a dull song in wole show,” affirms Paula Hudson, Starkville High School drama teacher, referring to the witty parodies of sixties music throughout the show.

The students have worked so well together that the Fine Arts Department is already considering ideas for another production next year. Tickets for the show will be available at the door for $3.50 and dinner will be served before the show at 6:00 p.m. The ticket price for the dinner and show is $7.50.

Those planning to purchase the dinner must make reservations before noon, February 2. The production will involve all of SHS ‘s fine arts departments.

“Everyone has pulled together to do what they needed to do to make this joint effort a success,” said an excited and eager Hudson. “It’s sad to think that after Saturday, it will be all over.”
