Mitchell Memorial presents 10th annual Ragtime and Jazz Festival

The Mitchell Memorial Library will host its 10th annual Charles H. Templeton Ragtime and Jazz Festival, including The Gatsby Gala, from March 31 through April 2, in the Templeton Museum located inside the Mitchell Memorial Library.

This year’s festival will feature Reginald Robinson, Tom Hook, Roseangela Sebba, Stephanie Trick and Paolo Alderighi.

The Charles Templeton Sr. Music Museum is one of the many museums on campus that provides students and tourists an opportunity to see an amazing collection of musical instruments, sheet music and recordings dating from the late 1800’s to the mid 1900’s.

Stephen Cunetto, Administrator of Systems at the Mississippi State Libraries, has been a part of this event for years, and said he is looking forward to it this year as well.

“It is truly hard to believe that this is our 10th Festival and it is just as exciting hosting the 10th as it was the first,” Cunetto said. “It is certainly much easier than it was the 1st year when we were figuring it out as well as trying to make people aware of the Festival. I am really proud of the growth we have seen in terms of attendance, types of events we host such as the Gatsby Gala and outreach to community schools but also that we are now incorporating both MSU students and faculty in the program.”

Cunetto said he thoroughly enjoys being a part of the event and the museum, as they both mean so much to him.

“I will have to say that working with the Templeton Family over the years has been an honor. I never had the privilege of meeting Charles Templeton, Sr., MSU alum and Starkville resident, before he passed away, but I have thoroughly enjoyed working with his children, Chip Templeton and Mary Beth Templeton Langston, on the development of the museum and the festival,” Cunetto  said.  “They have been wonderful friends of the MSU Libraries and Mississippi State.  We could not have made the museum or the festival what it is without their support.”
