Early Saturday morning, a Mississippi State University student was assaulted near the intersection of Lee Boulevard and Coliseum Boulevard.MSU Dean of Students Thomas Bourgeois said the 911 call came in between 4:50 and 5 a.m. and the MSU Police Department is actively pursuing the case.
“MSU Police detectives are fully engaged with the investigation and are also working closely with other local agencies to follow up any and all leads,” he said.
MSU Police Chief Georgia Lindley said the student reported being confronted with a weapon and assaulted near McKee Hall. She said the police are following several leads and are utilizing Crime Stoppers, which offers a reward, and statewide law enforcement.
Lindley said the police department offers a 24-hour, seven-day-a-week escort service to help prevent these types of incidents.
“I would advise [students] would not walk alone, be mindful of surrounding, report any suspicious activity to the MSU Police Department and call for the escort service,” she said.
Lindley said the investigation is still ongoing and asked for anyone with any information to contact the police at 325-2121.
“We want to encourage anyone with any information to tell us,” she said. “Even if it seems trivial, it may be important to us.”
