It is really hot outside. This isn’t a surprise, considering that the past summer was one of the hottest on record.
With the temperature rising to 95 degrees and above on a daily basis, walking even the shortest distance to class has become an extreme test of endurance.
Thankfully, the Resident Hall Association has decided to take action and help defend against the stifling heat.
The event is called Wacky, Wet and Wild Tuesday, one of the activity lineups of Dawg Daze, which is a campus wide event lasting from Aug. 11 to Sept. 3.
It is designed specifically to help students new to MSU adjust to the unfamiliar environment. Christi Little, a new transfer student, agrees
“MSU is a much bigger school than the community college that I attended, so coming here was a huge change. It always seems to have something going on, it was hard to get used to it all,” she said. “Things like Dawg Daze and Wacky, Wet and Wild Tuesday make everything seem less like one big school and more like one big Bulldog family.”
This will be the second year Wacky, Wild and Wet Tuesday has been added to the line up of events during Dawg Daze.
According to Neisha Johnson, RHA communication coordinator, last years day of water fun was “wildly successful.”
Equipped not only with three water slides and a wide array of water games, the event will also have numerous RHA give away’s.
Add in free MSU ice cream and Sno Biz snow cones along with a wet T-shirt contest open to absolutely anyone who wants to enter
“It is my goal that RHA will be more than a social club, but a unique and diverse group of individuals.who desire to go beyond their own expectations to leave their mark.”
Incoming freshman, Hannah Miller said, “I’ve been pretty excited about it ever since I found out about Dawg Daze at the start of the semester. It’s going to be amazing.”
The Residence Hall Association is made up of students living in the residence halls, acting much like a student government.
These events are mostly used as an attempt to help create lasting friendships and recruit members into their association.
Holding the title as the second largest student run organization at Mississippi State one may successfully conclude that they have at least been marginally successful in this endeavor.
As usual with outdoor events, the weather will be a determining factor. The weather is something that cannot always be predicted.
It is just one of the many things that may make or break the event. Although the official event date was set for Aug. 17, the day before formal classes at the university began, but due to rain the event was moved.
Now, as the start of Wacky, Wet and Wild Tuesday approaches once again, fingers are crossed as all who are involved wish with fervent desperation that the sky will hold its current disposition.
Wet, Wild and Wacky Tuesday is not put on for the benefit of the organization, but for the further development of the campus as a whole by those who realize the importance of cementing potentially lasting relationships between students.
