If you play fantasy football
then you have likely had your
draft by now. You’re probably
already regretting drafting
Knowshon Moreno in the
second round and wondering
why Favre un-retired yet again
and ruined your 16th round
Sage Rosenfels pick. We all
make bad draft decisions, but
don’t worry; there are still
some guys available on waivers
that may be able to help
you out.
Jason Campbell QB/WAS:
You know how everyone is
in love with Matt Ryan this
year? Campbell finished one
spot ahead of him last year in
ESPN.com standings. This is
the first time since entering
the NFL he’s had the same
offensive system in consecutive
seasons. He’s got a deeper
set of receivers than he’s ever
had, including Santana Moss
and Chris Cooley, and an
old Clinton Portis just means
more passing for the ‘Skins.
Shaun Hill QB/SF: He’s
not a big name, but he came
on late at the end of last
season, scoring 17 or more
fantasy points in six of his last
eight games. Add a healthy
Frank Gore, rookie Michael
Crabtree and the presence of
Josh Morgan and Isaac Bruce,
and you’ve got a solid looking
number two QB.
Jerious Norwood RB/ATL:
Not to be a homer, but if you
get points for return yards
then J-Rock could do some
damage. Harry Douglas, who
was going to return a few
kicks, is out for the season,
meaning more for Norwood.
Also, the Falcons have been
vocal about not giving Michael
Turner so many carries this
year, which, again, means
more for Norwood. It’s never
been a question of talent, just
how many touches Norwood
gets. This year, he should get
those carries.
Glen Coffee RB/SF: Yeah,
I know, he’s from ‘Bama.
But, with new coach Mike
Singletary the 49ers are going
to run the ball a lot. While
giving the aforementioned
Gore some rest, Coffee has
left a strong impression on the
coaches throughout the offseason
and into the preseason. He
will get his fair share of carries
as it is, but his value goes
through the roof if Gore goes
down with an injury, which he
tends to do pretty often.
Chris Henry WR/CIN:
Carson Palmer compared him
to Randy Moss in the offseason.
I’m not going quite that
far, but Henry seems primed
for a big season. He’s finally
had a quiet offseason, is in possibly
the best shape of his life
and he’s been the Bengals top
receiver to this point in preseason
games. With a healthy
Carson Palmer and Ochocinco
taking all of the defense’s attention,
Henry is a legit sleeper.
Michael Jenkins WR/ATL:
Lost amidst the emergence of
Matt Ryan and Roddy White
in 2008 was a 777 yard season
by Jenkins. Now that Ryan is
in his second year the coaches
are going to turn him loose
and throw the ball a whole lot
more. This is very good news
for Jenkins who should get a
lot of one-on-one matchups
as opposing defenses focus on
White and Turner.
Visanthe Shiancoe TE/
MIN: You may have heard of
Brett Favre? Shiancoe already
had the fifth most fantasy
points among tight ends last
season, now he has the man
that has turned multiple tight
ends into stars. Yet, Shiancoe
is barely owned in 50 percent
of leagues. If you need a tight
end, this is your man.
