Awards nights like Sunday’s 51st Annual Grammy Awards are hubs for Hollywood fashion. This year, the stars of the music industry brought out as many fashion trends as they did fashion faux pas.
In case you missed it, I have come up with a list of the top best and worst dressed stars on the red carpet. Enjoy.
As always, this year’s red carpet was stock full of Hollywood fashion icons. I have made a list of some of the best dressed celebrities of the night.
At the top of my best dressed list is Grammy presenter Zooey Deschanel (you may remember her from “Elf”).
Deschanel sported a vintage lilac dress. The dress featured a gorgeous gold flower pattern with a sheer one-shoulder overlay with lilac florets.
This vintage look suited her perfectly and was absolutely stunning on the red carpet.
The ever-fashionable Taylor Swift also made it onto my favorite best dressed list at this year’s Grammys.
She wore a classic black gown with an empire waist and a flattering cut.
Swift epitomized classic style in the gown, which fit her figure perfectly.
You can never go wrong with this kind of classic look. Take notes, ladies.
Country star Carrie Underwood was another among the best dressed of the Grammys.
This fashion figure is never one to disappoint. Her contemporary gold and silver beaded gown solidified her best dressed status.
This shining success was a beacon of fashion on the red carpet.
For every fashionable star, there was at least one whose fashion choices are sure to make you cringe.
Paris Hilton is uncontested for the worst dressed star at the Grammys.
After seeing Hilton’s wardrobe choice for the evening, I was speechless, a rare occasion when it comes to fashion. The phrase that sums up her choice for me is one that I often find myself saying when it comes to Hilton -“What were you thinking?”
In true Paris fashion, her dress was better suited for the bedroom than the red carpet.
From the odd mix of colors to the unflattering cut out under the bust, this dress is the definition of a fashion don’t. I hope we are never forced to see anything this hideous on the red carpet again.
A close second to Hilton was Grammy nominee M.I.A., who looked like she could go into labor at any second. Her baby was due on the day of the Grammys.
M.I.A. showed up dressed in a style I have come to expect from her. Though her dress suited her personal style, it was a crime against good fashion everywhere.
This purple and blue patterned dress featured wide sleeves and lots of layers. She topped off the look with blue tennis shoes.
What fashion lesson can we learn from M.I.A.? Dresses should never be this puffy at this length especially when you are this pregnant and blue tennis shoes are always a don’t, especially on the red carpet.
Paula Abdul had no room to judge tonight.
The “American Idol” judge looked her worst in a yellow accordion-pleated gown with gold accents.
Her Basil Soda gown’s accents included a double belt and an assimilation of metallic objects at her neckline.
Abdul’s beehive hairstyle and banana-yellow gown combined to form one hideous red carpet fashion.
Better luck next year, Paula.
Whether best or worst dressed, stars at the Grammys provided unending entertainment for fashion addicts. Be sure to check out red carpet pictures so you can experience the fashion successes and atrocities for yourself.
Keep your eyes open for these recent Grammys trends:
Dark Nail Polish: Everyone from Miley Cyrus to Jennifer Hudson was sporting this look. I recommend you try OPI’s Lincoln Park After Dark.
Tights with dresses: We saw several varieties on this look (black tights, gray tights, tights with patterns). You should try it. (Taylor Swift and Adele did.)
Scarves: No longer just functional and no longer just for women. Sported by the likes of Justin Timberlake and Nas.
