Student pronounced dead after Thursday collapse

A Mississippi State University freshman was pronounced dead after collapsing in his residence hall Thursday night.
According to an MSU press release, freshman civil engineering major Matthew Gatewood, 18, of Clinton, was rushed to Oktibbeha County Hospital after MSU police officers responded to a 911 call at Hull Hall at approximately 9 p.m.
Once on the scene, officers performed CPR. Gatewood was transported to OCH and pronounced dead at approximately 9:45 p.m.
No cause of death has been reported at this time.
“This is a great tragedy for a very promising young man and an
outstanding student, and it is a great loss to the Bulldog family,” Bill Kibler, vice president for student affairs, said in the release. “We grieve with
Matthew’s family and friends, and we extend the sympathy and support of
    the entire MSU family.”
