BREAKING: Student made up rape story, may face charges

An unnamed 18-year-old Mississippi State student who claimed to have been raped Friday morning told police that afternoon that it was all a hoax. The woman told campus police she met the alleged suspect at a social event and later gave the man a ride to his home at the Northeast Village.
She notified authorities shortly after 3 a.m. with the story that she had been raped in her car near the complex.
Dean of students Mike White has not yet released the student’s name.
MSU Police Chief Georgia Lindley said her department and the Oktibbeha County sheriff’s and prosecutor’s offices were discussing possible charges against the 18-year-old.
The event came a week after a 19-year-old female student was raped while jogging on University Drive Aug. 12.
