Mississippi State sophomore quarterback Tray Rutland has decided to leave the program and transfer to another school, head coach Sylvester Croom said in a statement earlier in the week. The 6-foot-1-inch, 221-pound Rutland – a Decatur, Ga., native – completed 20-of-48 passes for 151 yards with four interceptions last season.
He had zero touchdown passes for the Bulldogs.
Rutland played in five games last fall and started twice before tearing his anterior cruciate ligament against West Virginia, effectively ending his season.
Croom said Rutland’s decision came after several on- and off-field problems.
