    Honors college should bring prestige

Perhaps our days as an underdog college can finally be left behind. Mississippi State will create an Honors college from a $10 million donation made by an MSU alumnus and his wife.
This development gives us one step forward as a credible university. More top students will want to come to MSU with the new college. Some of these students may come from successful backgrounds, which could bring needed donations to the school.
Obviously, this is another sign of progress. We’re catching up with universities that already had Honors colleges, like Ole Miss and the University of Southern Mississippi. Now MSU can be taken more seriously—our status will steadily build.
However, the college should be managed correctly. We encourage the people in charge of the new college will take this advancement with great care.
The couple who donated the money cited former President Charles Lee as a persuasive element in this development. Lee’s last move as MSU’s leader could spring us further into the world of academia.
