Although we applaud the progressive construction on campus, the administration should look at more angles to see how developments will affect students.
For instance, a new sidewalk from Lee Hall to University Drive is planned to be brick. Even though the brick sidewalk might accommodate disabled students for the first few years, what if the spaces between bricks start to erode? Then disabled students would have problems when they have to buy books at the Cullis Wade Depot.
On the other hand, the administration is right for wanting to improve other sidewalks. The new, wider sidewalks will help disabled students, as well as other students who deal with crowded sidewalks every day.
The Bureau of Buildings will take bids for the Drill Field sidewalks Tuesday. We encourage the university to take a bid and get it done. Not only will this development make traveling on campus easier, but it will revitalize the look of the Drill Field, making it a more welcome place for everyone.
