    Bulldogs bite Wildcats

Jarvis Varnado helped carry his Mississippi State Bulldogs (12-5, 3-0 Southeastern Conference) past the Kentucky Wildcats (7-8, 1-1 SEC), edging a 69-64 victory and scoring the third triple-double in MSU history at the Humphrey Coliseum Tuesday night. The win stood out as the sixth consecutive victory for State and gives the Bulldogs their best conference start in 14 years.
Varnado, who pelted Kentucky with 10 blocks, 12 rebounds and 10 points, entered the matchup leading the NCAA in blocks per game.
Jamont Gordon tied a career-high 24 points during the game, mostly due to his five successful three-pointers that evening.
The Bulldogs hit the road Saturday, where they will play the Alabama Crimson Tide (11-6, 0-2 SEC). Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
