Institutions of Higher Learning director of media relations Annie Mitchell said the MSU presidential search is still on target – a president will be named by Nov. 1.
Amy Whitten, president of the Board of Trustees for the IHL, said in an e-mailed statement the board has been made aware of the allegations and plans to discuss the issue during the emergency teleconference meeting scheduled for 8 a.m. Saturday.
“Both Dr. Meredith and Dr. Watson have exemplary records of life-long service to higher education, and the board holds both of them in the highest professional regard,” she said.
MSU alumnus and state representative Steve Holland, D-Lee, said he’s known MSU Interim President Vance Watson for years and thinks highly of him.
“But an impropriety is an impropriety,” he said. “If that’s the case, it’s something that has to be dealt with.”
Holland said he’s not a fan of IHL Commissioner Tom Meredith.
“I’ve had issues with Tom Meredith since the day he set foot in these parts,” Holland said. “I don’t wish him any ill will, but I’m not sure that I would be overly grieved if he moved on.”
