A person of interest has been identified and arrested in the fatal shooting that took place on Mississippi State University’s campus Saturday night.
Mason Perry Jones was arrested by the U.S. Marshal’s office in Memphis after he got off a bus from Jackson, MSU Police Chief Georgia Lindley said. He was arrested based on a warrant for armed robbery, according to Colen Dula of the Jackson Police Department.
Jones is being held in the DeSoto County jail.
Lindley said he has not been charged for the shooting but remains a person of interest. She said the investigation is still ongoing.
John Sanderson, the victim, was fatally shot in Evans Hall on campus and later died in OCH Regional Medical Center. Oktibbeha County coroner Michael Hunt has ruled the death a homicide. Preliminary results will be available later today.
