Mississippi State went back on the road after a three week homestead against the Missouri Tigers in a special Thursday night football game. The Bulldogs would pass the road test with flying colors, winning 31-13. Now 7-2 on the season, the Bulldogs are 3-2 in SEC play.
It was another day in the office for star quarterback Dak Prescott. Prescott would go on to pass two major milestones on the way to a 350 total yards, 4 touchdown performance.
The first milestone came early in the first quarter, when on a short run Dak Prescott became the tenth player in SEC history to pass 10,000 total career yards. The other came late in the third quarter when Prescott threw an 8-yard touchdown pass to Fred Brown. This was the 100th touchdown of this career, becoming the sixth player in SEC history to do so. Needless to say, Dak Prescott has had quite a career at Mississippi State.
Prescott credited his success to his knowledge of the playbook saying, “Just knowing the offense, and knowing the defense. The ends and outs of the whole playbook and knowing what they are going to give me pre-snap.”
Dak can not do it alone, however, as De’Runnya Wilson and Fred Ross provided Dak with easy options throughout the game. Wilson had four catches and 102 yards to go with 2 touchdowns. He had eight touchdowns on the season, which leads the SEC.
Fred Ross had 11 catches to go along with 115 yards and a single touchdown. He now has 51 catches on the season. Good for 9th on the MSU all-time single season reception list. He needs 24 more catches to break the record, which would require an average of eight catches a game for the rest of the season.
The MSU defense was camped out in the Mizzou backfield Thursday night. They combined for five sacks and eleven tackles for loss. Linebacker Richie Brown was the sack leader with two. The real playmaker for MSU can’t be seen on the stat sheet as defensive tackle Chris Jones was a disruptive force, constantly Missouri quarterback Drew Locke’s face all night but only ended up with one sack and two tackles for loss.
“Every single week since the Texas A&M game, we’ve improved as a team,” said Head Coach Dan Mullen. “I think we’ve played better for four straight weeks.”
MSU will take on Alabama next weekend in arguably the biggest game of the year for the Bulldogs. The game time is still to be announce but will be at either 2:30 p.m. on CBS or 6:15 p.m. on an ESPN network.
