Gators start hot, hand MSU men’s basketball sixth conference loss

Behind a hot start from the University of Florida Gators, MSU dropped another SEC game at home to fall to 1-6 in conference play 61-59.
Shakeel Moore led the way for the Bulldogs for the second straight game with 12 points and five rebounds.
The Gators shot an impeccable percentage in the first half from beyond the arc and quickly jumped out to a 10 point lead only halfway through the first period.
Head coach Chris Jans spoke to the media about the Gators’ hot start after the game.
“The three point line has become a problem for us,” said Jans. “Obviously, we’re getting beat at the three point line by a large margin.”
Jans continued, saying while this Bulldog squad may not win the battle from deep in many games, a key factor going forward is making that gap much closer.
The Gators put MSU in a hole, and it took a dogfight, complete with posterizing dunks, struggles from the three point line and a heroic rebounding effort to do it.
All nine of Dashawn Davis’ points came in the second half with three big triples to keep the game manageable.
The schedule ahead for MSU looks bleak, which made this an important game for the Bulldogs — it was a chance to grab a win before facing two of the best teams in the country.
Now, according to Jans, every game from here on out is a must win, and that’s a bleak reality to find yourself in during January.
“At this point, I think every game is a must win,” said Jans. “Where we’re at, it’s new territory for some of us … certainly, I was well aware of what’s looming, but we were all in on preparing for this game.”
Next up on the schedule, MSU faces off against the top-five ranked Alabama Crimson Tide before taking on 14th-ranked TCU in the SEC-Big 12 challenge. That Alabama game tips off at 8 p.m. on Wednesday in Tuscaloosa and will be aired on SEC Network.
