Jason Derulo, American pop and R&B singer-songwriter from Miramar, Florida, will headline this year’s Bulldog Bash on October 20.
Bulldog Bash is a free outdoor concert held yearly during the fall semester and is hosted by the Mississippi State University Student Association. It is the largest concert of its kind in the state of Mississippi.
Bulldog Bash was first held in 1999 and was intended to connect Starkville residents and university students. Bulldog Bash attracted over 35,000 concertgoers just last year.
Headliner Derulo released his debut single, “Watcha Say,” in 2009. The song preceded his self-titled album and reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 by the end of the year. Following his album release, Derulo made appearances as the opener for Lady Gaga’s “The Monster Ball Tour.”
Another one of Derulo’s hits, “Ridin’ Solo,” was released in 2010 and reached a peak of number 9 on the Billboard charts.
Derulo has collaborated with several big names in the music industry, including Nicki Minaj on “Swalla,” 2 Chainz on “Talk Dirty” and BTS on “Savage Love,” the latter of which peaked at number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.
“Savage Love” marked a resurgence in Derulo’s career after going viral on TikTok. The audio has now been used in 3.8 million videos.
In March of this year, Derulo was announced to replace Keith Urban on Australia’s version of “The Voice.” On May 13, 2023, his latest single “When Love Sucks” was released.
Later this month, on Sept. 22, Music Maker Productions will host Battle of the Bands in Lee Hall. The winner will be given the opportunity to open for Bulldog Bash.
More than just a concert is included in the day’s events. Maroon Market hosts vendors from across the state of Mississippi to distribute their merchandise to attendees. A small local stage will showcase talented artists native to the area, and food trucks will be parked to provide concertgoers with refreshment.
Detailed information for the event is available on the festival’s social media accounts (@bulldogbash) and official website.
