Mississippi State University football dropped another major game against the University of Alabama, bringing the Bulldogs to a 2-3 record.
Despite a late kickoff, Davis Wade Stadium was packed with fans erupting in cheers throughout the night.
While the Bulldogs fought hard to keep up in hopes of finally clenching a win against an SEC opponent for the 2023 season, they were unsuccessful in their efforts with a final score of 40-17.
The Bulldogs had a rough start to the game and were only able to score 10 points in the first half. The score was 31-10 when the teams went into the locker rooms at halftime.
The Bulldogs’ defense did a better job of pushing back against Alabama’s offense during the second half. Despite their best efforts, Alabama prevailed and still scored. The Crimson Tide scored nine points in the second half in addition to the 31 points they scored in the first half.
The Alabama Crimson Tide holds a 16-game win streak against the Bulldogs, putting Mississippi State’s last win over Alabama in 2007.
Head Coach Zach Arnett expressed his hopes for the team this coming October.
“Only thing we are focused on starting tomorrow is October. We’ve got three games in the month of October, and to be honest, we need to go 3-0 in October, but you can’t until you go 1-0 so the only thing we are focused on starting tomorrow is the next game,” Arnett said. “It’s the only game we can prepare for and we’ve got an opportunity to play a quality football team and hopefully execute better and win. You’re not very happy in this sport when you lose, so we want to feel better play better and win.”
Bulldog’s quarterback Will Rogers stressed the most important aspect going forward is to keep showing up.
“Just keep showing up, that’s what I’m going to do, keep showing up. Obviously we’ve had a real rough three weeks in a row now, so I don’t know what to do but to keep showing up and keep giving it my all. That’s all I’m going to do and you know as long as I’m back there, I’m going to give it my all for my teammates and my university,” Rogers said.
The Bulldogs face Western Michigan at home in Davis Wade Stadium this coming Saturday. The game will kickoff at 11 a.m. and will be broadcast on SEC Network.
