From State to Sundays: Week six NFL update

Former Mississippi State University football talent continued to make an impact in week six of the 2022-2023 NFL season for their respective teams. 
Montez Sweat, DE: Washington Commanders
Defensive end Montez Sweat had six tackles in the Washington Commanders’ 12-7 win over the Chicago Bears last Thursday night. Sweat had two tackles for loss, including a sack of Bears quarterback Justin Fields. Sweat has had three sacks in the last two games. The former MSU defensive end continues to play a major role in the Commanders’ defensive scheme. Sweat has been on the field for around 70% of Washington’s defensive snaps this season.
Martin Emerson Jr., CB, Cleveland Browns
Cornerback Martin Emerson Jr. had six tackles for the Cleveland Browns in the Browns’ 15-38 loss to the New England Patriots Sunday. Emerson Jr. also had two passes defended in the game.
Preston Smith, ILB, Green Bay Packers
Inside linebacker Preston Smith had two tackles in the Green Bay Packers’ 10-27 loss to the New York Jets.
Tyre Phillips, OG, New York Giants
Offensive guard Tyre Phillips made his season debut for the New York Giants Sunday against his former team, the Baltimore Ravens.
Logan Cooke, P, Jacksonville Jaguars
In the Indianapolis Colts’ 34-27 win at home over the Jacksonville Jaguars, former Bulldog punter Logan Cooke had three punts for the Jags. Cooke punted for a total of 151 yards in the loss. Cooke’s longest punt was 61 yards.
Cameron Dantzler Sr., CB, Minnesota Vikings
Cornerback Cameron Dantzler Sr. had five total tackles for the Minnesota Vikings in the Vikings’ 24-16 win in Miami over the Dolphins.
Chris Jones, DT, Kansas City Chiefs
Defensive tackle Chris Jones had three total tackles including a sack of Bills quarterback Josh Allen in the Chiefs’ 20-24 loss to the Buffalo Bills Sunday afternoon. According to Pro Football Focus, Jones has posted a 93.2 defender grade — the highest in the NFL this season.
Darius Slay (CB) and Fletcher Cox (DT), Philadelphia Eagles
The Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Dallas Cowboys 26-17 on Sunday night. Former Bulldog defensive tackle Fletcher Cox had four tackles, and cornerback Darius Slay had two tackles in the game. Slay also had an interception of Cowboys’ quarterback Cooper Rush. Following the interception, Slay handed the ball to rapper Meek Mill, who was in attendance Sunday night. After Sunday’s win over the division rival Dallas Cowboys, the Philadelphia Eagles remain unbeaten on the season.
Cornerback Darius Slay said the Eagles are on an upward trajectory.
“We up! Philly’s up right now,” Slay said. “We’re going up. Up, up, up. We’re going up to that room.”
Dak Prescott, QB, Dallas Cowboys
Cowboys’ quarterback Dak Prescott did not play in the Cowboys’ loss against the Eagles Sunday. Prescott plans to return next week for the home game against the Detroit Lions.
