In Week Five of Season X, Mississippi State dropped a crucial road game to LSU, 33-20. The Tigers ran their way to victory behind SEC Offensive Player of the Week LaBrandon Toefield. Toefield had 21 carries for 122 yards and two touchdowns. He also caught three passes for 40 yards and two more touchdowns. Fred Reid, the new MSU starting back continued his solid season, having rushed for 381 yard, fourth best in the SEC West.
In what was pegged the Game of the Week, Florida State handled Louisville Thursday night, beating the Cardinals 34-3 at Louisville. Chris Rix passed for 452 yards and three touchdowns, but more importantly threw no interceptions.
In the SEC Game of the Week, Alabama edged Arkansas 16-7. Alabama leads the SEC in rushing, playing with two of the top five rushers in the SEC. Santonio Beard leads the SEC with 620 yards and Ahmaad Galloway is fifth with 381.
This week there is no Upset of the Week due to a very unusual occurrence. Out of the top 25 teams, no one got upset. Five of the top 25 teams had bye weeks, but the other twenty teams all won their respective games.
The National Offensive Player of the Week was WR Jerricho Cotchery from North Carolina State. Jerricho had 14 catches for 362 yards and five touchdowns.
Jeremy Campbell, a middle linebacker for Rutgers, was the National Defensive Player of the Week. Campbell had eleven tackles, two fumbles forced and one returned for a touchdown.
Tune in next week for one of the great weeks in college football. Mississippi State will face South Carolina, Clemson faces Florida State, Arkansas plays Tennessee, Georgia at Alabama, Texas Tech at Texas A&M, and in the Game of the Week, Florida will travel to Dixieland to play the Ole Miss Rebels.
