After an exciting victory over Georgia Sunday, the Lady Bulldog soccer team (4-4-2) suffered a stunning 1-1 tie at Jacksonville State (3-7-1) Tuesday night.
The two teams traded scoring chances throughout the first half, but were unable to crack the scoreboard.
State finally broke the drought when Betty Ann Casey dribbled across the top of the box and found Jennifer Turpin, whose shot beat JSU keeper Amanda Stephens near post to give the Bulldogs the 1-0 lead.
The lead evaporated quickly as JSU respondedwith a goal of its own five minutes later when Dausha Hudack’s corner kick connected with the head of Joanna McCaughey for the game-tying goal.
In the two overtime periods, the Bulldogs outshot the Gamecocks 8-2, but never could get a ball over the goal line.
“I thought that we played very poorly and without any enthusiasm,” head coach Neil MacDonald said. “I think that we were probably tired from playing three games in five days, but we have to do a better job of motivating ourselves for those types of games.”
