Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour will speak at the 18th annual Mississippi State University Insurance Day Wednesday, one of the largest insurance activities in the state.
The event will take place today and Wednesday on the MSU campus.
The event, which is jointly sponsored by students in risk management, insurance and financial planning and the Peter K. Lutken Chair of Insurance, has grown significantly over the past few years. More than 500 people attended in 2004.
IDay provides continuing education credit in allinuing legal education.
Tuesday’s events include a golf tournament at the MSU Lakeside Gold Course and a reception in the club level of Davis-Wade Stadium following the MSU-USM baseball game.
George Dale, commissioner of insurance for Mississippi, along with commissioners from other states will begin Wednesday’s events with the Commissioner’s Session. Sessions by William Mullaney, president of MetLife Auto and Home, and Ernie Cisiszar, CEO of Property Casualty Insurers will follow.
The afternoon session will begin with remarks by Gov. Haley Barbour, followed by sessions by various insurance executives from all over the country.
Edwin Duett, chair of insurance, said the event was a good opportunity for students to make contact with people in the industries.
Risk management, insurance and financing planning is one of the fastest growing programs in the country.
“Our major has grown over the past few years, with about 110 students currently enrolled in risk management, insurance and financing planning,” assistant director of finance and industry Tammi Riddle said.
