With only three regular season games left, the Mississippi State soccer team (2-13-0,1-7-0) is looking to put a win on the board.
The team will be on the road against Kentucky on Friday and then come home to host Vanderbilt on Sunday at 1p.m.
“We have come close in a lot of the games we have played this season,” defender Meredith Jacobson said.
With the exception of a torn ALC in February that forced her out of spring and summer play, Jacobson found very little that could put her on the sidelines during the 2006 season.
“For me, Meredith is one of the best centerbacks players in the conference,” head coach Neil MacDonald said. “She’s very composed, a fantastic athlete. She’s got a great recovery and is a good organizer.”
During her first season at Mississippi State, the Tomball, Texas, native logged a team best 1,774 minutes and 55 seconds of playing time.
She was one of the three players to start all four games for the Maroon and White.
Jacobson also played every minute of 17 contest, including a season high 110 minutes against Iowa State, Samford, Sacramento State and OleMiss.
The defender is known for being a spark for the Lady Bulldog defense.
A highlight from this season for Jacobson was the Tennessee game.
“Our team was focused throughout the game,” Jacobson said. “We played as a team and did not make too many mistakes. The little mistakes have cost us a few games this season.
“One thing I struggle with is staying focused on the field. My coaches call it being switched on.”
When Jacobson is not practicing or on the road, she enjoys being outdoors and reading.
“If my teammates were to describe me, they would say I was laid back,” Jacobson said. “I am actually really shy, until they get to know me.”
