Jack Cristil, Mississippi State University’s legendary radio broadcaster, died Sunday night at the Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo, Mississippi, due to extended illnesses of cancer and kidney disease, according to an MSU public affairs press release.
Cristil, a Memphis, Tennessee native and 88-year-old icon, served the Bulldogs for 58 years beginning in 1953, until his retirement in 2011. The longtime radio voice called over half the percentage of MSU’s football and basketball games during his time at MSU.
Sid Salter, MSU’s chief communications officer and friend of Cristil’s, stated Sunday night in a twitter message, “I loved Jack Cristil. Writing his life story was one of the great honors of my life. MSU will honor Jack’s amazing life in days to come.”
The Mississippi State University community and Bulldog family will continue to remember Cristil and his work for years to come.
