Figueroa, Spreen elected Student Association president, vice president

Mississippi State University students elected Keegan Figueroa and Abigail Spreen as the next Student Association president and vice president in Tuesday’s campus-wide election.

Figueroa and Spreen received 1,674 votes, defeating Kyla Hunter and Sydney Broderick, who received 1,060 votes, according to official results released by the Student Association. Voter turnout totaled 2,734, representing roughly 12% of the student body.

Figueroa is a junior biochemistry and political science major from Mooreville, Mississippi, and currently serves as the director of policy. Spreen is an industrial engineering major from New Orleans, Louisiana, and is the current secretary. The two will take over the president and vice president seats later in the semester.

Cape Merrell won the treasurer race against Peyton Willoughby, beating Willoughby by 424 votes.

Students also elected members of the Student Association Senate. These seats ran largely unopposed. According to the Student Association Constitution, it is the duty of the Vice President to appoint senators to empty seats in the coming weeks.

For the eight available campus-wide senate seats, the seven candidates running were all elected: Ava Abernathy, Donovan I. Bailey, Hattie Hicks, Kamron Hitson, Lauren Belk, Marie Elise White and Walker White.

In the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, Mary Parker, Aiden Boyd and Addy Knotts secured the three available seats.

In the College of Architecture, Art and Design, Laney Beth Jones and Will Manning were elected to fill the two open seats.

In the College of Arts and Sciences, Amiya Cunningham, Liam Nicholason, Joshua Trotter and James Lamar Junkin were elected.

In the College of Business, Andrew Meyer, Caroline Chaney and Eli Riessen were elected to represent the college.

In the College of Education, Rebecca Johnston was elected to fill one of the three available seats.

In the College of Engineering, Kate Odom, Pablo Gonzalez, Jada Steward and Ella Claire Gregory secured the four available seats.

Marianna Fulcher, the only candidate running for the two Office of the Provost seats, was elected.
