The Mississippi State soccer team has wrapped up its regular season games and will head on to the Southeastern Conference tournament in early November.
The Dawgs finished their season with a full record of 10-5-1, and a conference record of 5-4-1. They started off their season strong with a powerful 2-1 win over No.10 Wake Forest, but then fell short to Baylor by two.
MSU then went on and had a five game winning streak and a tie, followed by two more wins. The Dawgs defeated No.1 Tennessee in a 3-2 game and also brought home the Magnolia Cup with their 2-0 shut out against Ole Miss.
After the big rivalry game, MSU went on a three game losing streak where they fell short against No. 7 Arkansas, Florida and No.21 Vanderbilt.
Mississippi State traveled to Fayetteville, Arkansas, where they lost 2-4 against the Razorbacks, followed by a 1-2 loss by the Gators in Gainesville. The Dawgs then hosted Vanderbilt and were handed a 1-5 blowout loss.
To break the losing streak, the team traveled to Tuscaloosa, where they beat the Crimson Tide 1-0. Their final game of the regular season was hosted in Starkville against Georgia, where they gained their fifth conference loss with a score of 0-1.
Although the 2025 season was not as successful as 2024, State saw major improvement from the freshman class and had many star players stand out.
One of MSU’s biggest assists this year was freshman middle Adia Symmonds. Symmonds leads all Mississippi State freshmen in game time, coming in with 1,054 playing minutes and starting every match.
Symmonds was invited to the U.S. Soccer U-18/U-19 Women’s National Team Training Camp in Setubal, Portugal. She has also attended the U.S. Soccer Women’s College Talent ID Camp in Atlanta. Throughout MSU history, Symmonds is now the sixth Bulldog to play with a national team and the second to play for the United States.
Aside from Symmonds, senior middle Ally Perry has scored in nearly every match this season and has brought great success to the Mississippi State soccer program. Perry averaged 1.67 points per game and led the conference in league play with both shots and goals.
Perry was also the SEC Offensive Player of the Week for Sept.15. She was named to the MAC Herman Trophy Watchlist as well as a TopDrawerSoccer Preseason Best XI First Team Selection. Perry has had four game-winning goals, ranking her second in the SEC and seventh nationally.
This season marked Nick Zimmerman’s second year as head coach and his seventh year with the Mississippi State soccer program. Before serving as head coach, Zimmerman was the Associate Head Coach as well as Assistant Coach for the Dawgs.
The Dawgs will lose four senior players after the SEC tournament, but will be a sophomore-heavy team with 11 rising sophomores.
The tournament will be held in Pensacola, Florida and will begin on November 2nd. MSU Dawgs are entering the tournament as the No. 8 seed and will face No. 9 Oklahoma. The game can be streamed on SECN at 4:30 p.m. central time, and quarterfinals will be held on November 4th against No.1 Arkansas.
