Tradition is something Mississippi State University students take very seriously. From the cowbell to the Drill Field, there is always an interesting story about anything, and most of the time everything, associated with campus.
The Junction, located in front of Davis Wade Stadium and Barnes & Noble bookstore, is one of these coveted traditions. Known for its prestigious tailgating locations and its perfectly manicured grass, the Junction, formerly regarded as “Malfunction Junction,” plays host for many events such as the Dawg Walk. On Thursday at 8 p.m., the Junction will serve as the battleground for a laser tag game hosted by the Campus Activities Board for students and the general public.
Amanda Gilstrap, freshman kinesiology major, said she thinks laser tag games are always fun, and the game will be more enjoyable to play with other MSU students.
“Meeting new people just adds to the overall college experience,” Gilstrap said. “I always feel more a part of MSU when I know more people, and this laser tag game is a great way for me to meet more people.”
According to the Sept. 9 press release, the laser tag game will give students the opportunity to have a fun night after class while competing in a friendly game and interacting with other students.
The event is expected to start at 8 p.m. and end around midnight.
Rachel Cheatham, freshman special education major, said an event like this will bring in a variety of people.
Participating students will be permitted to sign up into teams and register teams for the friendly competition.
“By being put on teams, you will get to meet some people that you usually may not see or talk to,” Cheatham said.
Victoria Barcellona, freshman architecture major, said the game sounds like a good way to spend time after class because it allows students to meet new people in an interesting and different way while not thinking about class.
CAB, in particular the Film and Recreation Committee, wants students to join them “for an afternoon of enjoyment, influenced by the athletic ability and outgoing students of MSU,” the press release said.
The Film and Recreation Committee is also aiming to provide everyone a chance to learn more about other students.
Playing a game of laser tag seems like a fun way to spend an evening for a good number of MSU students. But CAB’s main focus is to bring students together and get students involved in campus activities. MSU traditions do this very thing: they bring MSU students and others closer together.
