The Student Association and Mississippi State University Athletic Department are working together to host Cowbell Yell in Davis Wade Stadium to kick off the 2011 home football season.
Rhett Hobart, SA president, said Cowbell Yell will be an opportunity to unite the student body on the eve of the first home football game.
“It’s going to be a really great event,” Hobart said. “It’s an opportunity to fuel that excitement about the game and do our part (as students) to lead our Bulldogs to victory.”
Hobart said this is the first year to have Cowbell Yell.
“We’ve had Dawg rallies in the Junction before, but we wanted a really big event to kick off the season this year,” he said. “We really want to bring our student body together before our first home game.”
Hobart said the event will feature the Famous Maroon Band, Dan Mullen, and Fred Smoot and Matt White acting as emcees. As the grand finale, a 15-minute firework display will take place.
Cowbell Yell will start at 10 p.m., and gates open at 9:45 p.m. The first 600 students inside will receive a free Cowbell Yell T-shirt.
