The staff of The Reflector won several awards in the 2006 Southeast Journalism Conference in Atlanta.
About 200 people from 22 colleges attended the conference, which was held at Emory University. At the event, students competed in both “Best of the South” and on-site competitions.
The Reflector took home one first place award in the “Best of the South” competition. News editor Sara McAdory received first place in Page Design, while editor in chief Elizabeth Crisp won fourth place in that competition as well as seventh place in the College Journalist of the Year category.
The Reflector won sixth place for Best College Newspaper, and writer Ben Mims won second place in entertainment. A fifth place award went to sports editor Ross Dellenger for sports writing, and Marcelle Okula won fourth place for graphic design.
Entertainment editor Tyler Stewart won 10th in the feature writing competition.
In the on-site competition, The Reflector tied for fourth place overall. Dellenger won first place for sports writing, opinion writer Laura Rayburn won first place in the First Amendment essay competition, and managing editor Dustin Barnes took third place in the copy editing competition.
