Mississippi State University had an overwhelming response to the “castyour ballot” campaign for the 2001-2002 senator election held Thursday.
“We had an overwhelming turnout for the Senate elections this year,”
SA President Sebron Harrison said. “I am ecstatic that people are coming
out and supporting the elections process. We have never had this large of a
turnout for a Senate race. At times, the voting polls became a bit chaotic
but it was a good kind of chaos for the Student Association and for MSU.”
The 2001-2002 Senate is composed of one senator per residence hall,
Fraternity Row and Sorority Row, two senators per college/school, and 15
day student senators.
Two senators were elected from each college. These include: College of
Engineering, Seth Christian and Jacob Herring; College of Accountancy,
Lauren Crosby and Christy Walker; College of Business and Industry, Scott
Horton and Ryan Toms, College of Arts and Sciences, Ginny Rogers and Lacie
Wilkerson; College of Education, Emily Herron and Laura Leigh Smith; and
College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, Stephanie Baker and Cassie Sullivan.
There will be a runoff for the College of Forest Resources.
“I am so excited about being elected to the Senate,” Scott Horton said.
“I can’t wait to get down to work with all the newly elected senators
from the different areas of campus.
One senator was elected per residence hall and one from Fraternity and
Sorority Row. Representing Fraternity Row is Hunter Butler; Hathorn, James
Kent; Hamlin, Contemprist Smith; Sessums, Lauren Moses; Rice, Jennie
Honeycutt; Suttle, Juan McCullum; Duggar, Wes Poole; McKee, Ebonye Allen;
Critz, Rebekah Williams; Evans, Brandone Abrams; Hightower, J. Nelson and
Hull, Laurel Kirksey. There will be a run off for Sorority Row between Mollie
Walker Clement and Angie Andrews, as both received 49 votes in the general
election.
“I am very excited about a new year in the Senate,” Student Association
Vice President Parker Wiseman said. “MSU students elected a wonderful
group of students to represent them throughout the next year. We have a
lot of work to do, and I can’t wait to get started.”
The 15 day students elected were Elizabeth Calhoon, Emily Crawford,
Emily Davis, Wes Dillon, Chris Gorman, Emily Howell, Foster Kennedy, Jason
McNeel, Lizabeth Meggs, Meggan Moore, Brad Reeves, Andrea Slocum, Brent
Tyler, Julie Wiley and Josh Wise.
Runoff elections will take place Tuesday in the Union.
Senate meetings are held every first and third Tuesday nights at 7:15
in the library auditorium. All Mississippi State students and the Starkville
community are encouraged to attend.
